2nd generaljr's suggestion.
I drive some older class A trucks with stiff hard suspension, I changed the air seat and it still wasn't enough help, I then put a cabmate rear cab suspension on the back of the cab and it really helped alot. That won't help you with your dodge, but in my search I came across driver seat suspensions for pickup trucks and tractors. Maybe these would help the ride.

Merc225hp -

Thanks for your advice. Also, thanks to the many other who have replied.

Merc225hp gave me an idea ... google "off road seats". I found a company called Suburban Seating http://www.suburbanseats.com/ that makes a variety of truck seats. For about $1900 I can get a PAIR of air suspension "premium" cloth bucket seats. They are designed for 2003-2006 Dodge trucks, but might fit into my 1999. They're sending me the drawings. The sales person suggested that I contact a handicap van conversion company who would be familiar with installing specialized seats. Of course, I don't know the installation cost yet.

Until I get all the details, I don't have a solution yet, but I'm getting closer. If the mechanics and the economics work out, I just might do it. I'll keep you all informed.

Thanks to all fort the great advice,

- Simon

^^^ I hope it works out for you. As a guy that has had four back surgeries I understand the need for a comfortable seat. For the new seats it might be as simple as just changing out the sliding base.

Merc225hp -

I'm not sure what you mean by "changing out the sliding base". What would I replace it with that would improve the shock absorbance of the seat?

So far the only thing that I've found is the air cushion seats, but "sliding base" sounds like you are referring to some other type of mechanism???

Please clarify ...

Thanks,

- Simon

Lower Air Pressure In Your Tires.

Air Ride Suspension for your seats, and, if all else fails,

OFF ROAD SUSPENSION SYSTEM CUSTOM TAILORED TO YOUR APPLICATION.

There are a few ideas.

Nothing special for the sliding base, just if the new seat comes with a sliding base and the seat does not sit level or the bolt holes don't match the floor in some cases you can take the old seats sliding base and bolt it to the new seat after you remove it's sliding base.

Well I don't know if it was mentioned here before, but use monotube shocks, not twin tubes. IMHO they are a smoother ride.

GM markets their trucks to women, so they ride softer.

Other than that, I'd find a spring manufacturer and tell them what you've got, what you want, and see if they can't bend you a pair of rear springs that that will fit the bill with a set of air bags for maintained load capacity.

Quick Reply: Good truck, but bad back. Need help.
