So...Today I decided to try to feel around in the cylinder with a wire to see if there was a valve or something down in there. Guess what? There wasn't a valve or anything in there, at all, Not even a piston... -.- Wire went clear to the oil pan lmao. So Sunday we'll be hauling the truck to the shop and pulling the old motor, found a used one on craigslist so hopefully we'll have it swapped in by the middle of next week, assuming i have time. Shouldn't take more then 10 hrs. Please let me know if y'all would like me to make an engine replacement guide for the forums as well.

Thanks,
John

Default New motor

So, after finding a missing piston I decided to just swap the motor, scooped one up out of a truck that had its wiring harness chewed threw by a rat. Motor hand cranked fine, flywheel spun freely on trans before i put the new motor in. so i put the new motor in and hooked everything up, now she still wont start -.-. so i was getting the same clunking noise as before so i went in and tried to realign the starter with the flywheel and put it back on, now it makes a much lighter click sound each time i try to turn her over, like its just not getting enough power to turn the motor over. Unfortunately I'm down to 2 days to have this truck moved, and I've damn near tried everything I can think of. When i turn her over the battery seems to drop from 12.1-12.4 to 10.5 ish so this evening I plan to hot jump the starter and see if it works I just figured I'd ask around here to see What ideas you guys may have. Thanks again.

-John

P.S. when I disassembled the old motor I found a valve head in the oil pan along with about 45 pieces of piston.

Are all the ground wires on it, major bunch near the PS pump check to make sure they are all there and in good shape, one on each head at the back of the motor to the fire wall. Check the positive cable and ends are they good.

Light click is probably starter relay. Make sure the starter is grounding well to the block. (may need to remove it, and clean up the mounting surfaces.) Make sure you are getting at least 9 volts to the purple? wire on the starter solenoid with the key in the start position.

You may need a new battery, and almost all of my starters I have pulled because of the same "click" you are hearing tested good at the parts store but still didn't work in the vehicle. I think that you should replace the starter. BTW you can't really just replace the solenoid because it is built in with the starter, so it comes as an assembly.

solenoid is good cuz its clickin, but that dont mean the started is actually turning, you could unbolt it and hold it while someone else hits the key and see if it actually turns....
