Default 01 Dodge ram 1500 4x4 with 5.2 pcm issue

I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 with a 5.2L V-8. I let someone use it to go to the store last year, and instead they took it through a mud hole and got it stuck... Yea I know stupid decision... I have had to replace the transmission and the front bearings in the truck. Before this the check engine light never came on. I have done all maintenance to the truck myself except the tranny and front end. Since the mud hole incident the check engine light has came on... had error codes P 0601(bad pcm) and one for a bad o2 sensor... It no longer reads the bad o2 sensor code, but I haven't replaced either one... Truck runs like a top, doesn't skip or shudder or anything. Yet, I still have the P0601 code come up... How can my truck run just like the day I bought and the pcm be bad? My brake and abs lights are on also... Does anyone have some sort of insight on how I can fix these things... I love this truck and would love to fix these issues... Also, what's the best way to increase gas mileage in this truck? Will true dual exhaust increase mileage? I also want to put a cool air intake on it, I know that will increase it... Anymore suggestions?

Welcome to the forum.

CAI and exhaust may get you 1 MPG. These trucks weren't designed for gas mileage.

I'd let that "someone" pay for everything they broke if I were you.

I will move you to the correct location on the forum to get more answers. For future reference, please visit the below link:

CAI won't do squat for MPG. 99% of the cai's I have seen for our trucks draw air from the exact same place as stock. Hi flow air filter will leave money in your pocket, and do just as much good.

You have 2 or 4 wheel anti-lock?

Start by replacing the rear wheel speed sensor. Should take care of the your brake lights. (after first making sure it isn't something silly, like someone stepped on the e-brake pedal a bit.....)
