Default Help! Have AC problems.

Hello, I am new to the site and was wondering if someone could help me. I have a 98 dodge ram with a 5.9 and just replaced the heater core and A/C evaporator! I took the truck in to have the A/C charged and the mechanic said it would not take a charge and that the high pressure side was peaking at 450 psi! He said that there is a blockage somewhere and thinks it could be the orifice tube. I replaced the tube and took it back to the shop and they said the same thing, high pressure side is peaking at 450 psi and it will not take a charge. I have taken everything apart and blew air through every part of the system and I can not find any blockage! Any ideas what I should do next?

Thanks
Chuck.

Try a different shop?

Disconnect the lines from the compressor, blow air thru the entire system. Make sure you get some flow. Might be bad compressor.....

Compressor is only a year old. Blew air through everything. What would make the high pressure side go up to 450psi?

Valves in the compressor can be bad/defective, regardless of the compressor's age. If you are able to blow thru all other parts of the system OK, chances are you have a bad compressor. If the compressor is just a year old, perhaps you can exchange it under warranty..

So would a bad compressor make the high pressure side go up to 450 psi when charging the system?

Possibly - if the compressor is still under warranty, its worth swapping it out, since seems you have checked out the other parts of the system
