30k check up
you probably won't believe me but i've got a 2001 ram 1500 4x4 slt laramie 5.9 with just over 30k miles on it. i've been reading the haynes and looking around and it's time for some check ups. i know i need to do the oil and diff oil, but should i change the spark plugs? haynes says yes, i say i donno. any ideas? also should i change the auto transmission fluids, and transfer case too?
your right... I don't beleive you... [sm=icon_stickpoke.gif]no ram could have 30k miles on it. they are made to be driven [sm=icon_rock.gif]
get the tranny serviced for sure, options for plugs range from stock to 3923 autolites or NGK ZR5F-11 plugs... the transfer case and diffs can probably wait till 50k or so but it never hurts to change it. my preference has always been synthetic oils...

yeah well it was my granfather's truck before mine in highschool, senior year anyway. but soon it will be all mine. i'm running the napa synthetic oil in the engine can't remember what i bought for the diff. i'm planning on taking the beast into the shop for the transmission and transfer i think...
know of any good bolt on CAI's??
know of any good bolt on CAI's??
i keep seeing these CAI's on ebay and www.ramtrucktoys.com that still pull air from right over the engine or at least right over the passenger side wheel... now something just tells me that these are cheap, and don't really do any good. kinda hard to have a CAI when you still pull air from the engine compartment. how do these people get away with this? also how much use is a throttle body spacer? do that much good for my combustion? beats me.
I think the volant setup is supposed to be good but your right, anything that pulls in engine compartment air is not worth it. pulls too much heat to do any good and you might acutally loose power in the process.
ok so i took a pic of my mileage to show you. i'll have it posted in a couple hours. probably some pics of my subs, and neons if it's dark out. should be entertaining to look at. i'll have to start a photo album or what not.

ok if you didn't believe me go to the gallery and search for a gallery under my name. you'll see the only pic i have up. it's my milage. believe it now?
Actually, I find 30K very believable. My 2001 Ram 2500HD 5.9L was one of the first for the model year, was delivered to me in March of '00. I only have 36K on mine. Used mainly for long road trips back home to Spokane,WA from SoCal and runs to the home center.
Changed cap, rotor, plug wires, plugs (went to Champion truck plugs). Change oil and rotate tires every 3000 and alignment every other rotation. Being from the northwest (snow country and potholes) makes me **** about tires and steering.
Have the Volant CAI in my Ram and works well. Dual intakes to the filter box. One from the stock location out of the wheel well and the other blocked off for a runner out to the front (next to the radiator). Interferes with the fuel evap setup.
Had the tranny serviced and plan to do the diff at 50k (maybe earlier if I change my mind).
