Default fuel pump gone out or ASD triggered?

Hello,

Today I was driving and came to a slow stop. Before stopping my truck (1998 ram 1500 5.9) idled down and died. I tried to restart and it would fire but die out instantly. My fuel gauge was acting up earlier in the day, but I didn't think anything of it until then. So I got a tow to the house and broke out the book. Everything checked out but I am a bit confused about the relay switches. With the key "ON" I pull the ASD and replace it, it makes a click noise. I do the same with the fuel relay, and get nothing. I have swapped relays with the horn (horn works) and also with the ASD (works cause of the clicking). I hear nothing from the fuel relay though. I also hear nothing from the fuel pump when turning the key on. I checked for fuel pressure and have very little sometimes, and none at other times. Most of the time it is none, Ive dumped gas down the air intake, truck fires up and dies once the gas is gone. I've got 200k miles on the truck and it still purrs like a kitten! Well until today anyway. Should I be getting a click from the fuel relay? All fuses in the cab look good, so could there be another place I am missing for fuses? I'm currently draining the gas via syphon, its taking a long time but want to be ready to drop the tank if need be. To bad I filled up yesterday, figures...

I used the search but found so many varying topics, thanks in advance.

want to add by checking the relays, I do have 12 volts at the fuel relay with key on and off, with the ASD its only with key on that I have 12 volts. still no "click" from the fuel relay, can I jump this to test the fuel pump?

Check for power at the fuel pump connector. This exercise will require two people, or, creative use of a test light... you only get power there for about three seconds when you turn the key to on. If you get power to there, pump is dead. If you don't, need to find out why. PCM controls fuel pump relay independent of ASD. Power comes from fuse 9 in the fuse block on the side of the dash. (control circuit)

So its normal for the ASD to "click" when turning the key on. I thought maybe the clicking was the ASD turning the fuel supply off.

@ connector - I got under there and tried to remove the connector, hoping to use the multimeter, though I had a bit of trouble. Long story short, it didnt come off. Dang sure didnt want to pull a wire lose trying either. Im going to look at fuse 9 again, just to be sure.

@ test light - Pretty sure I dont have a test light, guess i know where Im headed first thing in the morning!

Thanks

edit...fuse 9 is fine, was hoping I overlooked it.

For anyone interested, it was the fuel pump. Swapped it out, cranked the key 5 or 6 times and she fired right up!

thanks
