Default Torque Converter Failing - Replacement Opinions wanted

I'm on my second transmision, first had a whining noise and was replaced at 95000 miles at Dodge dealer for $3200 with a reman on 10/2006.

This current trans has a failing torque converter after 85000 miles.
Started with losing TCC lockup at highway speeds bumping up 200rpm randomly, no code set. Then later got Trans Temp light 2 separate times, I immediately shut off motor and let cool, no code, trans pan was very hot to the touch, not good! Now I notice that TCC lockup has not been engaging and I just got code P1740 for TCC. I like the way it drives better without TCC lockup, motor has more power now at 2200 to 2500rpm!

I'm thinking of replacing the converter myself and want opinions on brand and stall speed, as well as anything else that you all can recommend get replaced/upgraded while I'm in there. I do mostly highway and some light towing. Want most power out of motor I can get for towing with 3.55 gears.

I've been looking at PATC converters.
Which one?
Should I go higher or lower stall?

Two things: delete your check valve if you haven't already
and actually CALL PATC and see what they have to say. They've got some pretty cool stuff going on in their TC's that allow you to run a high stall, but still have awesome low end torque.

Unless you're overly adventurous, just buy a MegaViper and be done with it.

It will last longer than your truck.

Precision of new hampton make GREAT converters. They're very knowledgable and can give you better info. They are highly recommended by MonteC. He told me about them when I was rebuilding my tranny so I bought one for my rig.

I may be over thinking it, might just do the converter long as the whole trans is not contaminated. The Mega Viper is on my list down the road but for now I'll just put the converter in it. Want to see how long this one last.

Gonna need to park the truck and ATF flush the entire system then and cross your fingers.

Great advice, my transmission guy who I trust, says only way to get it all out is a rebuild, but for the price of a rebuild I'll order a mega viper. I'll know more after drop the pan. Will probly just ATF flush, clean valve body and solenoids, check valve delete, add particulate magnet and new torque converter. Then drive it till it dies.

Should be a magnet in your pan already unless someone removed it.

Speaking of MonteC, there is reason for his thread being stickied on this very page. I suggest you at least browse through it.
