Default Exhaust upgrades

I have a 1997 1500 360ci extended cab short box. the current exhaust is cracked and holed all over the place, so its time to replace it. i would like to put on a dual exhaust, but have been told that I can't do true dual because of the single O2 sensor. am i able to install a true dual exhaust with only 1 O2 sensor? is it possible to install a second O2 sensor without too much computer issues?

what are my options here? i've done a search and have looked through the exhaust discussion thread and have seen a few guys running a Y pipe and si/do mufflers and such. is there an H pipe kinda deal to still use the single O2 sensor but have it split into dual right afterwards? I"m new to this V8-single exhaust thing lol

You csn run true dual with one o2. It'll just be in one pipe. Or you can run an H pipe and put the o2 in the H. Or, yet again, you can run a single in dual out muffler and have the o2 before the muffler, which it needs to be anyway.

Save your money and do a single out or a dual out after the muffler of choice. You need around 400 hp for true duals with 2.25 to 2.5 in pipes. Check out customexhaustvideos.com ,calculating exhaust size.

i ran true duals on my '89 1500 5.9L with 2.25in pipes and it had nowhere near 400hp and it had far more pep than my '97 does

My factory stock exhaust and air intake on my 99 5.9 has/had quicker acceleration than my 01 with a spectre cai, hi flow exhaust with duals out the rear and got better gas mileage. I just wanted OP to know he might lose some low end torque going with true duals on a 245 hp truck.
