Default Under coating

In a few weekends I am going to try and undercoat my truck as it is starting to rust, I have looked at products such as chassis saver by magnet paints an east woods line of products along have watched way to many youtube videos but, what do you guys recommend I thought about using rust oleum rust converter then going over that in vht chassis and roll bar, I'm trying to stay away from rubberized under coating. I am doing this more to prevent/get rid of rust then sound (i like to hear the money come out of my pipes!)and since my truck is lifted 6" you see a rusty frame. I would like to go with a shiny finish but what do you guys recommend/ have tried.

Last winter I just used the rubberized stuff, but when I go to touch everything up this fall I'm going to switch to the bedarmor stuff they sell at advance. It's just rattle can bedliner but I've heard good things about it's adhesiveness and rust prevention...also gives a pretty nice finish. If you want a shinier look, you may have to look in to getting a compressed air spray gun and a liquid undercoating to put it on...and that gets a little difficult when under the truck.

I work with rust everyday being I'm a paint and body man. Here is what I would do. Use some PRO15 on the rust. It's not cheap by no means. Then I would use what called rustfree over the PRO15. You will have to call the paint and body supply the get these.

Lone, wanted to use POR15 also for that purpose. But my plan was to first use kind of a rust converter, and then go over that with POR15. So you would suggest to do this the other way round?

I am also doing this as we are going to drive the truck again this winter. Plans are wire wheel as much of the frame as possible, POR-15 the the frame and chassis coat on top of that. I have tried the rust check/ rust stop stuff= snake oil, the rubberized stuff looks good for a bit then the rust just comes through it. I figure a quart will do the frame twice. So far I am very impressed with the diffs painted with POR-15 its holding up well.

Google 'Fluid Film', grab a case from ebay and spray away. Stuff works wonders. I did my truck 2 years ago and it's doing fine with new england winters so far. I'll touch it up in late october and I'll be good to go.

I've heard a lot of good and a lot of bad about Por-15, I think I am going to wire wheel the whole thing then spray a converter, then go with vht it is easily available and I haven't heard anything bad about it yet. My only question is the converter I'm gonna use is a primer also and the vht is self primeing, would I run into a problem their?

The only down side to PRO15 is there is NO UV protecter in it at all, but with that being said it should be used where the sun don't shine. ALso it don't hold paint well, but it will hold RUSTFREE. You should always sand the rust off first then paint on the PRO15. I will say PRO15 once opened should be used until gone or it will get hard in the can. I QT is more then you need for one truck.

I did you truch 4 years ago and it still looks great to this day and No rust. It's a 99 and I do work it in the snow and plow with the truck
