Unhappy 99' Transmission Issue

Dodge Ram 1500 - 5.9L - 2WD - Laramie.

The transmission is not shifting out of first, it will go all the way over to to red and still not shift. Even shifting manually from 1 to 2 makes no different.

I read on another post to unplug the 8-prong connector on the transmission (guess that's what connects the solenoid). My dad and I took it down the road and sure enough, shifting from 1 to 2 did result in a gear change. I read in another forum somewhere that it could be the speed sensor. Is there a test or anything else we need to try to mark out what is causing the problem?

You just did the test, and found your problem.

Time to drop the pan, and replace the governor pressure sensor and solenoid. Borg Warner makes a heavy duty replacement, that is a much better design than the stock part. They are available on EBay for about 100 bucks for the set.

Get a filter/gasket kit as well, and at least six quarts of fluid. These are pretty easy to change, just need the pan, and filter out of the way.

WE are going to buy the parts today. I'll post back if this fixes the issue.

Also wouldn't hurt to check TV Cable adjustment.

To all who helped, thanks. We replaced both sensors/solenoid and it works like a charm. However, the shifts seem a little late. I am going to look at the guide and adjust the TV cable later.
