Default Trans. rear band question- crack? w/picture

I changed my tranny fluid. I noticed a crack on the washer that sits on top of the rear piston spring. Is this how the washer is supposed to look or is it in fact a crack? If it is a crack, what would cause this? There was no debris/metal in the fluid. Putting the truck is reverse is the cold has been an issue.

Could I repair it myself? Swap out rear band parts? washer?

I have a 99 2500 5.9.

What is the washer above the spring in my pic? It almost appears that the washer was put in to act as a spacer.

In the pic. on this site, there is no washer above the spring. http://www.sonnax.com/system/new-ann...pdfs/22912.pdf

How many miles on the truck? Can you see how much material is left on the band? It may indeed have been put in there as a spacer......

48000 miles. Plow truck. Has rebuilt trans. I asked the guy who I bought it from and he also thinks that it is a spacer that was added during the rebuild. Your were right. The problem is that the spacer can move around from side to side affecting the lash.

the rear band is only used in rev. and when you pull the gear leaver all the way to LOW. in drive low it is NOT used.

Can you remove the spacer, and still get it adjusted up properly?
