My A/C has been working fine all summer now all of a sudden the compressor cycles on and off and blows warm air.Can it just be low on refrigerant?

 

yup, had this problem as well. added some R134 and now it's good. I probably have a small leak somewhere...

Go to the autoparts store and get one of those re-charge kits for about $25 bux and re-charge it.

Man I had the same problem a few months ago and I added R134 and it was fine. Then about two weeks ago it started running hot again. I had to add R134 twice and with in a week it has lost all of its cooling. Its like it would lose it when it sits over night. My brother-in-law had his ram's a/c worked on last year and it was doing the same thing as mine. It turned out it was his evaporating coil under the dash that went bad. Apparently it is a common problem in dodges according to the shop he took it to. They knew exactly what was wrong when he brought it in. He said it cost about $400.00. Mostly labor to remove the dash. I think I am going to wait untill spring since it is starting to cool down or untill I get the extra $$$. Man it pisses me off[:@]

 

had the same problem. and yes it was the same result evaporator coil..... cost me $690...

 

I just added the 134 and the ram was fine...


Have a durango that did the same thing... recharged it... and now its completely out... I just bought a compressor for it.... its going to end up costing almost a full grand to get going again... but its 98 degrees with 94% humidity and a woman drives it... it just has to be done...

 

ok tried to recharge it today, put a pressure gage on it and it read zero, so I tried to add the R34 but it would not take it because the compressor would not start, now what the !@#$ do I do ?[:@]

 

Mine did the same thing. You gotta turn the compressor on, then open that valve, and be prepared to wait for a little bit. The compressor will eventually start cycling, then eventually will start running normally. For about a week, then it will start blowing warm again, at which point you'll start shopping for a replacement evaporator.
Around here it is hard to find replacement dashboards b/c so many get broken (at the dealer) during the evap replacement. I got one about a month ago for $150, but I havent had time to do the job. I'll probably wait till spring time and do the evaporator at the same time.
