It wont let me upload all the pictures I took, I will try and do the photobucket deal I hear about all the time for the rest of them. Based on that picture, it sure looks like a weight to me, what do you guys think?

That a weight for sure, and its riveted on, time for you to get inventive and get that outta there. I don't see a reason to pull the motor to fix this.

Hmm. Maybe, ill have to crawl under there again. I dont want to pop the weight loose and then not be able to get it out because then i wont be able to drive it to my dads shop to pull the motor, which is about 200 miles away.

I just looked, and I really don't think I want to try getting it out, too big of a risk if it doesn't work. On a related note, i found another number on the block, on the passenger side. 10 4 97, where each space was separated by what looked like a rivet. It seems to be the date the engine was produced, October 4th 1997. Ironically, that is my birthday. If this is a 1998 model year motor, I wonder what differences there might be.

We got the flex plate off. It has one long weight on one side, then two little ones opposite. I assume they all need to come off? My phone won't let me upload the pics

Yup they sure did. We got them off and we're able to get everything back together and the truck out of the shop by about four. And so farfrom wwhat I can tell she purrs like a kitten. Almost made a fatal error of leaving the oil filter off... Whoops

Huge relief. My dad had me convinced I was wrong and the truck would vibrate itself apart after taking the weights off. What a pain in the a$$. I have no plans of doing that again anytime soon.
