To me, that looks like grease throwout, not transmission fluid.

 

yeah i changed the trans fluid and t case with lucas synthetic gear and diff oil. also added the additive in the rear diff. that grease u see on it is from me, i swabbed a bit on with my finger.

the tranny noise is only noticeable when standing still at a light in neutral ( i know i said in gear in my earlier post, just got off work give me a break lol). so i will be sitting at a red light and the truck in N, just foot on the break. this is when its grinding/clicking. when i push in on the clutch it goes away, the tranny shifts fine and smooth, does not grind while driving. just in neutral.

 

Sound like the throw out bearing is going out. Just for your info ATF+4 only for the xcase.

 

Is that an extensive job? Also I understood they want ATF in xfer cases with auto trannys invade the seal between them gives out. Also isn't it just a chain inside the xfer case? The oil I have in it I probably way over kill

 

The noise you are hearing is the input bearing on the transmission. Not a throw out/ release bearing. If it was the throw bearing, you would hear the sound when pushing down on the pedal. The chain in the T-case holds up pretty good. What breaks is the snap ring on the output shaft going to the driveshaft.

 

Not if its rattling in its cage, under pressure it will stop, no psi and it will make a noise as its rattling around. As the xcase uses a oil pump to lube it the right oil is very important lack of oil is a bad thing. There is no chance of cross contamination between the trany and the xcase oils. Either way the trany is coming out.

 

The nv3500 uses a synchromesh manual trans fluid. I have one in my truck and when I rebuilt the trans I did a lot of research. And the t-case uses ATF. When gear oil is used in the nv3500 it has potential to do a lot more damage than good. Didn't read much on gear oil in the t-case but I would assume it would be reasons along the lines merc225hp posted. The pump.

 

The NV3500 takes ONLY Mopar NV350 and NV3500 oil purchased at dealer counter. Get that stuff out asap.

Mine has made a slight grinding noise while sitting in neutral for the past 12 years. I would say normal but I'd have to compare it to mine. The driveshaft looks like mine sans the longer seal. Why put grease on the shaft? It does not move in that much. Mine travels maybe 1/8" according to the wear marks.
