Default 1998 Ram 1500 5.2L No Spark

Hi, I post on the Durango forum fairly often, but this is my first time here.

We have a 1998 Ram 1500 5.2L that had a spun rod bearing. We pulled the engine and completely rebuilt it. New rings, had the crank turned and all new bearings, new timing chain and gear, new oil pump, ...

We broke the crankshaft positioning sensor while pulling engine. After putting the engine back in and replacing the broken sensor. It started right up and ran for about 5 seconds and then died. It now has no spark. We thought the new sensor may be bad, so we replaced it with another. Still no spark. It didn't run long enough to throw any codes. The old sensor has a fairly strong magnet in it. Both new sensors have almost no magnetic force. Could both sensor be bad? One is a Borg Warner and the other was a DuraLast (AutoZone). We checked the distributor, rotor, and cap. I don't see any issues there.

Any ideas why no spark? Where should we start looking?

Thanks,
Danny

Is it an automatic or manual transmission rig? If you would fill out the info on your profile plus add it to your signature it would help out.

You have a relay in your power distribution box that if it went bad can cause a no spark issue. You can swap the relays around to test them.

Thanks for the reply. It is an auto tranny. I have now updated my signature with both Dodges.

When you say power distribution box, I assume you mean the fuse box just behind the battery. I have looked at all the fuses/relays in there but don't see any that look like they are blown. I have not tried swapping the relays around. I'll ry that today.

Thanks!

Fuse 9 in the block on the side of the dash as well. I think the IOD fuse plays a role too, but, if you dome light works, the IOD fuse is fine.

I have tried for almost a week now and still don't have spark. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated. I have tried swapping the relays with no change and looked at the fuses, including fuse 9. Nothing blown. If I crank it, how long before a code might be thrown that would indicate a problem?

Bad ckps, pinched wires at the back of the motor, bad ign coil, bad pcm, check the lead from the coil to the dizzy, any power at the coil? Download the fsm and see what's listed to be checked for a no spark cond.
