Default Mysterious hose - can you tell me what it goes to?

I have this mysterious hose in my truck and I don't know what it goes to. It can be seen below:

Anyway, the truck won't shift past second gear, could this be related?

No, I have my tranny dipstick hooked up. The fluid levels are in the proper ranges. Any other ideas? This thing has me stumped...

I believe the other end goes to the top of the transmission or transfer case. I'm hoping it's transmission related and it explains why I can't get past 2nd gear! Thanks in advance for your ideas!

Well, you need to get down and look more and take more pictures. We don't even know if you are on the driver or the passenger side. Definitely see a control arm.

It appears to be passenger side since looks like diff is far right side and away. Here is at least the mess of linkages on the tranny, but from the driver side.

My first guess is HeyYou's first guess.

Yeah, I should be more specific. I'm on the passenger side. I had the engine out and got it back in now, so I had everything disconnected. I've got just about everything hooked back up, just couldn't figure out this hose. The vent for the t-case makes a lot of sense though! Where would it normally be bolted up?

Thanks for the help!

i cant for the life of me figure out how to copy the one page from the manual

but from the picture the bolt goes through exactly where the transmission fill tube is mounted on the upper transmission bolt to engine
im looking at my 2001 manual im not sure if it exactly the same
im sure someone will correct me

you can always go to the DIY section and download the manual. good thing to have
