hey i got a 2001 dodge ram 1500 4x4 with the 5.9 auto trans.
reverse went about a month ago then finally everything went
i got a guy to rebuild it for 1k and he goes i can buy my own parts or he can and i can add any type of performance to it. ive never done this before but i dropped the trans ready to give it to him but can anyone tell me what are the best parts to buy or good quality and affordable. i def don't wanna go thru another tranny it lasted about 194k plus should i add performance parts while its being rebuilt. i was gonna wait till after winter to build the 360 in it.

Look on page six of MonteC's trans thread. (either in this forum, or the faq/diy forum, should be stickied.) there is a list there of better parts to upgrade your 46RE that will essentially make it bullet-proof.

Another option is to check out PATC's website. They have complete kits for various stages of performance you want out of your trans, from a bit better than stock, to indestructible.
