Default FASTMAN TB ???'S

I HAVE A 01 QUAD CAB 5.2 MANUAL AND WAS WONDERING ABOUT HIS THROTTLE BODIES. ARE THEY REALLY AS GOOD AS EVERYONE CLAIMS? IS THERE ANYONE ELSE WHO DOES THIS AND WHERE DO I FIND THEM?
I HAVE A FLOWMASTER EXHAUST, VOLANT INTAKE (I WOULDNT RECOMEND IT TO ANYONE). AND OF COURSE THE SUPERCHIPS SUPERTUNER. SHOULD I GO WITH THE 50 OR 52MM T/B. I WOULD LIKE TO GET A CAM AND MAYBE HEAD WORK LATER.
SO IF ANYONE HAS ANY SUGGESTIONS AND CAN GET ME IN TOUCH WITH THE RIGHT PEOPLE YOUR HELP WOUD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

I have the 5.9 and put the 52mm on. I notice a nice increase in throttle response across the entire powerband. It really hasn't helped my gas mileage like everyone said it would but the performance gain is worth it. I think there is a company called BBK that makes performance TB's but they are all way more than what you can get fastman's for, and are the same thing IMO. If you check out the fastman's website he goes into a little more detail about them. I know he recommends the 50mm for the 5.2 and if you go through this site I believe it is 210.00+80.00 core charge.

I have heard nothing but praise from people on this board that have installed the Fastman throttlebody. For the 5.2 they recommend the 50mm. If I had the money right now I would get a fastman. Also you get $80 for you old throttlebody. Sounds like a good deal to me. Personally I would rather buy from him because he specializes in dodge tb only. -Tyler

I went with the 50mm on my 5.2 per the recommendation of Dan Arcand, aka the Fastman. It really is a very good mod. I was very pleased with it. Acceleration is smoother, and throttle response was noticably improved. What I liked most was that there was noticable differences across all rpm ranges, not just wide open throttle. It also works even better in pair with a CAI since it optimizes the additional airflow you get with a CAI. I also saw about 2 mpg increase.

If you are doubtful, or have questions, I recommend you call up or e-mail Dan. I think his number and email address is on the fastman website (www.thefastman.com). He is a wealth of knowledge about making power in Rams and Dakotas (check out his 9 second Dakota on the website). He has always been good answering any question I had.

As far as others, I have seen some bored TB's on eBay, and have also heard Hughes makes a similar product. Or you can make your own if your so inclined.

yup, another one here that agrees with what everyone has said. I agree with Reed to on the mpg increase. It usually doesnt last however because you get used to the power and start driving differently thus hurting your milage again.

With all the mods on my truck, i can get 14.5 mpg on the hiway, but it's aweful boring at 65 mph...

I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN WITH THE CHANGE IN DRIVING. IT'S ONLY NATURAL.
I HATE TAKING MY TRUCK OUTTA 4TH GEAR B/C I LOVE THE WAY IT SOUNDS SOOO MUCH.
I GUESS I WILL GO WITH A 50MM I THINK 52MM WOULD BE TOO MUCH.
THE MPG CHANGE WILL COME IN HANDY ON MY TRIPS FROM SO CAL TO EAST TEXAS.. 2MPG TIME 1500 MILES WILL ADD UP REAL FAST.
THANKS AGAIN I WILL DEFINATELY BE GETTING ONE..

I did my Flowmaster muffler about 2 weeks after doing the TB, so that could have had impact on my mileage too. But I have read posts from lots of other guys who saw similar mpg gains when they put on only a fastman TB. After you install, if you don't see any noticable improvments, reset you PCM, then drive if a few hundred miles and check again.

I think you'll be happy with it though, but you should beware. Installing one good mod could easily start you down a seemingly never ending cycle of buying and installing perfomance modifications. Your wallet will suffer, but it is so much fun. I have done over 30 mods on my truck to date, and still have a few more planned for the future.

I HAVE DONE A FEW THINGS LIKE CAI EXHAUST AND A SUPERCHIPS PROGRAMMER AND THEY ALL HELPED SLIGHTLY. MOST NOTICABLY WAS THE PROGRAMMER. I TRY AND STAY AWAY FROM GIMMICKS AND QUICK FIXES THOUGH. IM NOT A MECHANIC BY ANY STRETCH SO I HAVE TO RESEARCH AND FIND THE THINGS THAT WILL WORK BEST FOR ME AND MY WALLET.. CHEK MY OTHER POST I HAVE MORE QUESTIONS THAT NEED ANSWERING.
