Rear axle nut size

Default Rear axle nut size

I am replacing the seals in on my rear axle of my 1998 Dodge Ram 4WD with Dana rear end. There are two large nuts that I need the sockets for, however they are in a loctation where they are hard to measure. One is the Axle nut and the other is the yoke nut. Does anyone have the socket size for these nuts so that I won't buy the wrong size. Thank you for any help you can provide.

I helped a guy do this on a 1999 2500, and the axle nut was 1-11/16 from what I remember. Can't recall the yoke nut.
Just buy a few in that size range, and take back the ones that are the wrong size. I do that at Sears pretty often if I am not sure what size is needed when buying irregular tools.

I know that the axle nut is over 2 3/8 because I bought one that size from a discount tool store for $12 and it was too small. I also bought a 1 3/4 for $4, for the yoke, and it was too big. I can't really afford to buy several tools from Sears, and the discount tool store doesn't give cash refunds, so I want to make absolutely sure that I buy the right size this time.

Which DANA axle do you have in the rear? 44? 60? 70? 80? 80 Hybrid?

Ya, I understand. Ypu could call up your local Dodge dealer, and ask to speak with one of the service techs. They would have that info handy I bet. My manuals are at home, so I can't look it up for you, sorry.

my rear axle is a Dana 60 . I found out what socket to use, it was a 2 an 9/16 and the yoke was 34mm. Thank for your help and God Bless

Hi. I have found it. it was a 2an 9/16 socket and the yoke was 34mm. I talked the Dealer and he said that he didn,t know what socket it was. Thank you for your help and God Bless
