Just out of curiosity can anyone give a non bias answer as to which of the big three offer the "best" heating, in a 1/2-3/4 ton extended cap configuration.

^ One would have to have direct experience in similar model pickup trucks from each of the big 3 to answer that question....

based on the fact ive worked on or in the new(er) ones dodge has always been the best heated of them all. Ford has new instant heat systems like some of the euro cars. chevy has a good heater but i had a duramax and a blazer over the years and neither had great heat, the max fell way behind when it was below zero the windows would still frost.

Well i worked on it twice more, whole process, drain, backflush, clean, replace. heat guage will not go above 160ish checked both thermostats with the boiling, they opened and closed properly. so why am i getting such cold (my opinion) readings both thermostats have the 195 stamp. the weather is starting to turn and i'd like to make sure that the windows can stay defrosted with precipitations, had another dodge that just had 4 small holes right at the base of the window where the vents where, kinda want a whole window visibility on this truck lol.

Get the engine up to temp, go to your local parts store, use their scanner to see what the PCM thinks engine temp is.... its possible the gauge in the dash is just lying. Also possible the sending unit is providing inaccurate info.

Is your heat any better?

Alright went out got my morning coffee and the mail ran around a bit to get up to temp then stopped by the shop in town for the reading. He read 178 so (my opinion) cold. While he was hooked up i had him read the error code that popped up last night. any guesses as to what that was based on this thread p1281 go figure. so shall i go for third times a charm and redo the whole thing again. or try something else?
thank you all for the help this site has helped me out considerably on several topics.

Thermostat controls temp..... which you have replaced a couple times, and those even tested good.. Which is REALLY weird..... You could try (yet) another thermostat, but, I would guess with the same results..... I am REAL curious what's up with that.... I would almost be tempted to try the temp sending unit....

Is your heat hot?

Or.... pick up a cheap infrared thermometer, get the engine up to temp, and then shoot the thermostat housing, and see what THAT thinks.

heat is hotter than it was but thats from the backflush on the heater core. i think if i do get another thermostat i try a dealer instead. i was reading a bit on that code one guy tried a couple aftermarket t-stats then went dealer worked for him so idk. i'm going to mess with testing some sensors as well i'll post what i find but it might be a while.
