Default Another 46re thread

Tried searching and read a lot of info but couldn't really find wat my truck is doin. It has a 46re that was supposed to be rebuilt. It started hittin high rpms b4 it would shift from 2 ton 3 I believe. I figured that's was the governor pressure sensor and solenoid. One day on my way home it quit shifting out of 2nd. I parked till I could get the money got the parts. It stayed parked for bout 2 weeks. When I went to put it n my basement I put in reverse and the lights came on and I felt it "take gear" but it won't move. I floored it and it moved just enough to get lined up with the garage door. Took the pan off and filter was black and there was a lot of sludge in there with some stringy metal. Any suggestions? Is a filter, fluid, and governor pressure solenoid and sensor change gonna fix my problems? Thanks in advance

Stringy material could be a toasted seal or TQ clutch material which means rebuild.
I dont see any senario where your not doing a rebuild.
you may get lucky with back to back fluid changes, as in, put in new filter fill it up and run it thru the gears and change it again, filter and all.
Maybe you will get lucky.

Black material magnetic? Sounds like toasted clutch material?

whistling sound maybe a vacuum leak. I would check the filter and fluid and adjust the bands. Then drive it and see what happens.
