Wheel Hup replacement ..Torque
Last weekend during a oil change I notice a loose wheel bearing on by truck. No problem i thougth a few bucks for a new bearing and we will be fine.. Nice simple project for this weekend.. Well to my suprise [:-]from visiting this site , you dont change the bearing you change the whole hup... We wont even get into what the part cost [:'(] but is was strange it was actually 150.00 canadian dollars cheaper at the dodge dealer then it was a two other part suppliers.
The truck is a 2001 Ram 1500 4X4
Could someone tell me how tight to torque the spline and hub bolts.. also any advice on change this would be helpfull...

OK OK Iam new to this MOPAR stuff, but I just changed the u-joint on the front of my 96 2500 Dana 60. I didn't look that close at the wheel bearing but it looked like it could be pressed off and on. Are you saying that it can't be changed? And now I have heard three different troques for the front hub nut.
The same thing happened to mine. I went to go get new tires on truck and i found out out the the whole wheel bearing collasped in my front right tire and i had to take into a place here in town and they had it for a week and the cost was around $650 for a hub. Ryan

As far as the bearing, it is not serviceable unless you have access to a 20 ton press. Most people don't.
I do believe that the 01 and newer trucks have serviceable bearings and a different hub setup. You could always swap to one of those axles. That's something I'd like to do someday when I have nothing better to work on. The 01+ trucks also had larger front brakes.
