Default Trac-Loc Clutch Replacement

Clutch pack tore up; luckily pieces fell to bottom of diff and didn’t tear anything else up. I am going to order the replacement clutch packs and new carrier bearings and I got the tool for the side adjuster nuts.
Couple questions
Do I need to remove the ring gear to get the spider and side gears out/in?
Should I replace pinion bearing?
If I keep track of how many times I turn the side adjuster nut and re-tighten like the article says, is that really good enough for backlash and tolerances?
Has anyone done this that can add some helpful tips?
I looked at the article on fourwheeler.com with the pics and it seems pretty straight forward.
Any help and tips will be appreciated

It will help but in the end no.

Do you have the true trac? Do you think that the all gear design is good for a daily driver? Weekend beach trips?

I think messing with the pinion takes it from DIY to shop job, do you think so too?

I personally don't but my dad does. I find it to be a more agressive LSD. I think it depends on your usage. If you do any wheeling or drive on winter roads then yes, I think they are a great upgrade. Good road manners and even better off road manners. When I was trying to find information for the truetrac for my dad, I found that jeep forums were the best place to look.

OK thanks. I live in deep south texas so my winter roads are basically the same as my summer roads. I am leaning towards the Yukon Dura Grip, or just replacing my factory Trac-Loc clutch packs. I called a shop today and got a quote for 1400$ and cant afford that. Have you heard anything about the Yukon DuraGrip?

Didnt know they made a duragrip for our trucks. I have heard the duragrip is OK but not the best. Personally, if I were you, I would replace the clutch packs. Thats probably the cheapest option. Most agree the stock LSD in our trucks is a good unit.

I found the Dura Grip on Randy's Ring and Pinion. I am leaning towards just the clutch pack, and praying that the ring and pinion are ok.

I am a firm believer in the factory LSD in the rear and feel its more than adequate for up to and including 35 inch tires. My truck see lots of tough situations here in the desert southwest. It wasn't until I put 37's did I have any issues. That is the limit and the first time I ever saw one tire spin in the rear. So I think your best bet is to get some new clutch packs for the stock LSD. Next step is ARB airlockers, but they are costly.
