how do you have an open diff 4.10? That iS a spider gear, in your case, your in luck, they ALL interchange in all open diff (not LSD)9.25 rear ends. Dissassembly is not hard at all, you will need basic hand tools a long needle nose pliers and a good magnet to pull out the c clips...this is of course if as far as you go is replacing the spider gears. They don't just break on their own so there is much more damage to be likely.

Merc hit it on the head, almost certainly your only options are a different carrier, which means bearings and the works, and the tough thing is, you have to find a 3.90 rear end so you can use that carrier on YOUR 4.10 gears, if they are reusable, I suspect not. Can we get pics of the inside of the diff, a few good shots of the ring gear would be great and close ups of the spider assembly too.

Last word. These things don't just fail just because, so you will want to look for damage or severe wear elsewhere. And then abuse will do this too, twice I've seen split spiders from parking lot donuts abuse, both times they wrecked the whole diff.

I'm thinking the pinion gear is the big one, right? If so, its the only gear that's in good shape. The other small gear inside it is showin some definite wear, its all scratched up along the teeth. So the master install kits should fix both of those small gears inside the carrier? I think the carrier is in good shape. The biggest problem he has is he don't know anyone to rebuild it for free and neither of us know a whole lot bout it. We haven't gotten to that class yet in my program at college

Oh, and it is a limited slip. And he don't have the power left to do doughnuts lol. The most he does is pullin a small utility trailer and pullin people out when they get stuck

Am I to understand that this truck is running 37" tires. If so, this is probably the root cause of the problem and can only be fixed with an axle swap if your going to keep running 37's. The stock axles can handle 35's but bigger is a stretch. Upgrade to some 60's or 70's

Yea, its on 37s. The actual axles are fine, and the rear end was rebuilt two years ago, so I don't know why it came apart like this. The problem with switchin to different axles is different axles out of a bigger truck wouldn't bolt right on, it would have to have fab work, correct? The leaf springs are different? And we would have to convert the 8 lugs to 5

There is no break point for the 9.25 gear carrier so one from any 9.25 will work no matter what the ratio is. An used factory lsd will not be that easy to find, but I have seen rebuilt one's on fleebay for around $200+

60/70 swap is almost a bolt in job, yes you would need 8 lug wheels or get conversion axle shafts that have the 5x5.5 bolt pattern they are out there but not cheap.

I would not go so far to say 37s are too big for 44/9.25 I run 37s with lockers I also made damn sure my gears are set correctly and that everything is well maintained including yearly diff oil changes and inspections. Knock on wood, no issues 5 years later. I think if it failed at two years it wasn't set correctly to begin with OR you never changed the diff oil after break in.

I'm not kind to my truck at all...but I keep up with it. I'm on the hunt for plugs and wires today as it happens.
