Default Rear end issues

Well, my dad was hearing noises from his rear end and so he finally pulled the rear diff cover off. A gear was cut completely in half.He told me to get prices on how much it would cost to replace. The only problem is, I don't know exactly what it is. I don't know if it will work, but I'll post the link to photo bucket. Might be cheaper to find another rear end to put in it...

Not that I know of. The fluid definitely smelled burnt tho. And the problem is finding another 4:10 rear end. I didn't know if the leaf springs are the same width and it fit exactly or what needed to be fabbed. I think the only 4:10s were in 2500s and 3500s

Nope, they also came in the 00 and 01 off road edition ram 1500....but those are extremely rare and probably wont be found in a junkyard...might be better off trying to rebuild the one you have or taking it somewhere to be rebuilt if you want the 4.10s

A 4.10 rear end will probably be hard to find at a junkyard... Looks like a spider gear to me....

I was thinkin that the off road dodges had like a 3:90 or something like that. But I called the junkyard near me I go to and they didn't have one. And he was wantin this to be a cheap fix...

That is a spider gear, comes from inside the gear carrier. You can get rebuild kits for just this purpose. What kinda shape is the ring gear and pinion gear in?

Ring and pinion set about $200+
New carrier $200+
Master install kit $150+
Labor to do the work about 4-6 hrs
