Default '99 1500 sport transmission failure?

I have a 1999 1500 Sport 4x4 with the 5.9 360, yesterday as I came to a stop at a red light I heard and felt something bind up. When I tried to proceed through the light I could not go and it would only go in reverse for a few inches before coming to a halt. I had to put both the column shifter and the 4wd shifter into neutral in order to push it off the road. This was the first sign of a problem since I've owned my truck. Is this a sign of a complete rebuild coming my way?

Could be fluid pump isn't pumping. Have you checked fluid level and condition? How many miles on it?

The truck has around 200,000 miles on it. I've had it for about six months and as soon as I got it replaced the trans pan gasket and the fluid. I did an oil change on Monday of this week and checked/topped off all fluids. The trans fluid looked ok and did not smell burnt or abnormal. I'm trying to decide if I should just grab another transmission from the junkyard and swap it out to get back on the road and have someone rebuild the old trans. Thank you for the reply.

If you also had to put the t-case in neutral to move the truck, I would start looking at that first.

Ok, I had the transfer case rebuilt when I got the truck that's why I was thinking transmission. I will definitely check that out first then. Thanks for the reply and suggestion.

How long ago? If less than whatever warranty period..... go back to where you had the work done, and have them check the t-case.
