Default dodge ram 1998 2500 v10 overheated and need help!

Well I hope I'm posting this in the right place, but any way I'm hoping anyone can help me with my truck. Over the past summer my water pump started to leak so like a fool I plugged it up to by more time but I still had to fill the truck with water with no antifreeze....and now im paying the price for it...lol so the freez plug in the engine block blew and so I replaced it and filled the radiator with antifreeze and test drove the truck but it overheated bad and had to stop every mile to cool it down. I finally got it home but it was too late I checked the oil and it was like mud and the truck runs real ruff! So my question is the trucks motor done can anything be done....I found an engine for it and it has 72,000 on it and they want $1500.00 for it and its been tested and comes with a three month cash back warranty! I love the truck and the 4x4 works great and the tranny is good its not a **** box by any means but is it worth it? Thanks and I would appreciate any info on this and help me do the right thing, thanks for your time!

Moving this to the tech section for ya.

Is it worth it? That's up to you..... if the rest of the truck is in good condition, then the best I can give you is "probably".

You could rebuild your motor, but, Doing that for under the 1500 might be tough. All depends on just how bad it is. Picking up the other motor, and just swapping it in will certainly reduce down time though..... Is this your Daily Driver? If it is, then the new motor is going to be the hot ticket.

Gonna have to pay someone to do it? Ouch. You are looking at 8 to 10 hours of labor, at whatever the going rate is. (which around here, is 75-100 bucks an hour... yeah, it's outrageous.)

Got a warm place to work, hand tools, and a way to lift the motor? Could save yourself some serious bucks by doing it yourself.

You have to decide if it's worth it. Check around for the lowest labor rate/best warranty.
