"Max Gear is an ultra-tough, high performance synthetic gear oil designed to provide maximum protection to heavily loaded gears. Max Gear excels in axles containing open, limited-slip, locker, and spool equipped differentials. Max Gear is also recommended for use in truck and automotive front or rear differentials, manual transmissions and lower gear units of marine engines that specify use of an API GL-5 or GL-4 fluid. Max Gear is non-corrosive to soft yellow metals (brass, bronze, copper) and is safe for use in manual transmissions with Synchronizers."

The last thing I want is a tranny rebuild on my hands.

If this stuff is no good, what can I use? Does Amsoil, Royal Purple, or any other manufacturer make a fluid compatible with the NV4500?

PS I plan on doing the transfer case fluid as well. He gave me Castrol ATF+4 for that. The service manual says that's all good.

Hey I know this is an old thread, but for those who are wondering and searching for an answer I have a 03 Ram 2500 5.7l Hemi w/ NV4500.
The transmission was done about 4.5 years ago by a local tranny guru and he recommended ATF+4. So ATF+4 is what went in... Now have around 60000+ Km and truck shifts great still, a bitt noisy eg gear wine as these transmissions are, especially behind a gas engine but works as it should with no issues.
I do moderate driving. ( I don’t beat the **** out of it every day, but I do drive it like a truck and sometimes honk on her as I love the sounds of the super 10s).

I am not telling anyone to switch to ATF+4, just saying I run it and it works just fine. No issues...
