Default Whining Rear End

Hello I have a 2001 Dodge ram 1500 5.2L. My rear is having similar problems with the rear as I've seen in other threads. The Whining gets louder as I speed up and gets its loudest 30-35 mph. It also seems to get louder when I hit the gas. When I let off it gets quieter but still has a constant whine. I saw some people describing some of my symptoms but it seems to be a few of them combined. I was just thinking about replacing the whole rear with a junk yard one but I'm worried that it will have the same problem. what would you recommend?

See if the junk yard rear comes with a warranty..... (even 30 days will be long enough.) Make sure it is the same ratio as your current one, ESPECIALLY if you have a 4x4.

If you can swap it yourself, you will pay about as much for a rear end, as you would just the parts to fix yours.... and I suspect yours is pinion bearings. Not an easy repair if you have never done one before.

Welcome to DF!

Thanks! I am currently learning automotice tech in college. I just have to decide wether to rebuild it or just get a whole rear. My instructor knows how to replace the pinion bearing. He said there still may be a noise though. I have a little while to think about it. Thanks again for your help!
