i've been reading many of these "heater" threads, since i have the same issue on my 2001 ram.

i just replaced the thermostat and have been "burping" the system, as best i can. i may go with the "tee" vent, next.

just curious... when your truck is a full temperature, where is the TEMP gauge reading on the dash? mine is barely making it into the low end of the middle zone.

i seem to remember that the gauge would read at/near the 210 reading at the 12 o'clock position on the gauge. not getting anywhere near that temp, now.

just can't wait for "polar vortex - part two" to start.

thanks.

Mine sits just above a 1/4 of the way up.

Does the heater work adequately, in your opinion?

Mine's about the same location on the gauge, but the heat is "iffy", at best.

My heater works great if I'm not idling. I can hear air in the heater core though so it's pretty easy to assume that's what's wrong.

Mine is square in the middle between 210 and whatever the lower reading is

Heat will run you out of the cab

Well I still have mediocre heat at best. If its all the way on the hot setting I get warm air at hiway speeds but idling is barely enough to keep windows clear when outside temps are hovering around freezing. My 96 v10 truck would cook me out of the cab like most other vehicles would. So I assume its not normal.
My temp gauge is just above the middle (95*) on a Canadian truck. Which is 203*F so I assume im around 210+.

Try back-flushing the heater core. Might be full of crap.

Make sure your cooling system isn't low.

There is a procedure for adjusting the cable for the temp door in the service manual as well.

How is the air flow? (volume-wise.)

On the 01, check the temp door motor. Its on the bottom of the heater box, just to the passenger side of of the trans tunnel. There is a plastic coupler in there that likes to break, and the door doesn't move thru its full travel.

One more question, is the heater core output on the right or left looking at it from the front of the truck?
