Default Pwer Steering

I'm getting a whinning noise when I turn my wheel and I have noticed a leak and a drop in PS fluid in the reservoir. My intent is to get it to a garage but it is some time before that will happen. Is there a short term remedy until my appointment?

Keep an eye on fluid level.

Sounds like failing pump though.....

Yeah that ^^

I drove around for about a year with a whining/leaking ps pump. Just kept a quart of ps fluid in the truck and topped it off every now and then.

Thanks Hey You! I read something about draining the reservoir and adding Lucas treatment. Thoughts? If it were the pump going, any ideas where I'd see the leak. It looked as if there was fluid on the linkage at the bottom of the steering rod from the firewall.

The various treatments won't help. The damage is already done. Best you can do is nurse it along until you can replace it.

Leaking back by the firewall? Do you have hydraboost? (instead of vacuum assist power brakes) What engine in your truck?

It is tough to say exactly where the leak is. It looks like it is leaking from the bottom of the reservoir, is that where the pump is? I am not car savvy so I can't tell you exactly. But it certainly is not leaking anywhere near the firewall. The fluid on the connection below the reservoir could be just dripping from the leak. I have since added more fluid and the noise has gone away and do have it rescheduled for fixing in two weeks

Might be leaking at the seal between the pump itself, and the reservoir around it. (the fluid also helps cool the pump.) I think the only way to check that, would be to remove it, and inspect..... Can't see a lot with it installed.
