Default 2000 5.9 46RE transmission issues

First, please accept my apology if this question has been answered before, I tried to find it, and couldn't find something similar.

Here's the skinny...

My transmission recently felt very "soft" in first gear, when engaging, like the torque converter was slipping. Then with increased speed / rpm it would catch, and cruise along. Also, when heavy accelerating (in first gear) I would also hear a ticking noise coming from the tranny (maybe) that sounded likt a spring creeking while it was compressed (hope this makes sense).. like something is slipping inside the tranny.

We replaced the governor pressure solenoid and switch with borg warner ones, we replaced the filter, and put it all back together.

NOW, when I accelerate, randomly first gear won't engage until I've got some rpms up, and (I'm assuming) pressure in the tranny. It seems to do the same thing as before the governor pressure switch/solenoid but just engages very hard, instead of gradually as before.

Any ideas? Does anyone know how to adjust the new governor pressure solenoid? Could it just need adjusting so that it doesn't require so much pressure to engage first gear? Is that even what it does?

Thanks for all the help!

Adjust the bands. (means going back into the trans....)

Procedure is in the service manual. You can download the 01 manual from the Service Manual thread in the FAQ section here.

Great advise, I'll give that a shot tomorrow! Is this the clicking sound, or the shifting into first issue? or both? Seriously thank you!

Maybe....... should deal with your first gear issue though. have to see what happens with the noise... might go away, might be something else entirely.
