Ram 3500 differential question
Hi, I'm new to the forum here and new to the 99 Ram 3500 I just bought. It has 117,000 on it and I bought it for the plow and dump bed it came with and for a back up vehicle to my work van. So I noticed some fluid leaking where the drive shaft goes into the rear end. Found out it is probably the pinion seal (by the way I know nothing about working on cars but I want to work on this.) So what I got from the internet is it's a fairly easy job to do and you should check your fluid often until you fix it so it's not to low. What I am having trouble with is the fluid type.(cause the fluid seems low, about an inch below the hole) Pep boys told me Dexron3, but from what I read elsewhere it looks like 80w-90 gear fluid. Also how do I know if it has the LSD and if it does what would I use. Thanks
Welcome to DF. Will move you to the correct spot.

First thing to do is go to dodge dealer parts dept.
Give them last 9 digits of the vin number and tell them you want a copy of the build sheet.(its free)
That will tell you everything on that vehicle from the factory.
Next go to FAQ's section in this forum and download the 96 and 2001 service manuals(also free) there is no 99 so you will have to compare info from both on what fluid to use.
Or you can buy it on cd here http://www.ebay.com/itm/1999-Dodge-R...c88877&vxp=mtr and upload it to say skydrive where you can share it here on this sight.
I have have 95 and 96 manuals that i have shared on this sight.
Both of which i have bought from Bishko Books(I also have several other manuals from them so i don't have a problem recommending them.)
