Default 97 Ram 1500 error code 12

I live in wonderful CA. I cant pass smog with any engine error codes. When I do the On Off On Off On I get an error code 12 which indicates a battery disconnect in the last 50 ignition cycles. I have removed and cleaned all the battery connections and started and stopped my truck more than 50 times and still have the Error code 12 occurring

What do I have to do to get that code to clear so I can pass SMOG??? Any help is greatly appreciated

12 is an OBD1 code meaning all systems normal. Is a 97 OBD1?

97 is OBDII, sorta. Code 12 is just telling you that the battery was disconnected in the last 50 drive cycles. No worries.

My truck is an oBD2 . . .I understand the code 12 is nothing to worry about EXCEPT to pass friggin SMOG 3 laws here in CA, the computer can show ZERO faults. Any error codes cause and automatic FAIL. I have checked and cleaned the battery connections and turned the truck on and off over 50 times and this battery disconnect code won't go away

Any ideas to get it out of the computer???

Drive it a lot? You aren't going to get rid of that any other way. Aside from that, "12" is not a "fault", fault codes turn on the check engine lite. If your inspectors fail you for a code 12, my advice would be to move.

We don't have inspections of any sort here in michigan. We'd be happy to have you.

All I can find is this:

Code 12: Battery Disconnect - Direct Battery input to PCM disconnected within last 50 ignition key-on cycles. Normal if battery has been disconnected, otherwise check battery power and ground connections.

Is the check engine light actually on? I'd be tempted to take it to another station if it's just a stored code that indicates normal.....maybe they don't know what they are doing?
