Trans problem or torque converter?
Hey guys.
I have a '97 Dodge 2500 pickup with a 360 engine.
I changed the transmission a year ago with a junkyard unit and now it just started acting like a slipping clutch in a manual and then after a few seconds grabs ahold and pulls.
It shifts normally except for occasionally 'hunting' a bit on upshifts.
Can a torque converter be slipping?
BTW I have the complete trans and torque converter that came out of the truck.
If this trans is toast I might see how much of a job it is to retrofit a manual trans.
Thanks for all help and comments,
Brad

There are a couple threads here for manual conversions. Lots o' work though.....
More than likely slipping clutches. Could try doing a fluid/filter change, and band adjustment, and see if that helps.
Welcome to DF!

Itook the pan off and the screen was pretty plugged up with aluminum. No metal parts in the pan but lots of 'metallic' residue in the pan. Has to be non-ferrous because it wasn't stuck to the magnet
With the correct fluid installed with a new filter the truck now drives but does not downshift properly.
I have the original transmission (was changed out for a junkyard one year ago) and I am toying with the idea of taking a shot at rebuilding the original.
