engine ran rough and died won't start has spark and gas
Good Day,
I have been a Dodge fan all my life (owned 5 in total) My current truck 95 Ram 1500, 318 died on me. I left work and it felt like I had a flat tire but it was running so rough it felt that way. I made it about half a mile and it died as I came to a stop. I got it running by holding it to the floor board,it ran for a second and thats it. I towed it home changed the timing chain (bottom gear was really loose) this did not work, I should also mention that I have replaced the fuel pump in February. Any suggestions? I have been told that it could be the crankshaft sensor.

Thanks for the info.I have not checked the timing with a gun. I di however ccheck that the dist was firing on #1 cyl and that it was at tdc. The timing chain was lined up with a ruler when installed. I'm not getting any combustion it simply turns over.
start with the basics... check you cap, rotor and plugs. are your plugs gas fouled? if so, maybe your coil crapped out and your not getting enough spark. your problem is obviously engine wide and not isolated to 1 cylinder so whatever the problem is, it has to be a sensor or something.... check your codes and see if there is anything there. you can take it to the autoparts store and they (most of them anyway) will pull the codes for you. once you've done that, let us know what they were...
Thanks for the suggestion the "check engine" light is not on, the only code I have is my tranny(which I know about) the coil is great I tried it on my sister's jeep and her jeep fired up right away. I have called local shops and all them say that I should check the CKP sensor. I ordered one and I'll have it tommorrow fingers crossed I'll have the answer.
It sounds exactly like a timing issue to me... can't think of what else would cause those exact same symptoms unless something internal slung when it jumped timing...

My truck is now running for some reason them 318's don't run on a water and gas mixture,I am in the process of suing the local gas station. Thanks for all your help guys.
When the gas shortages of the seventies occured they found a few stations around here adding water to gas. Were there a lot of "bad gas" complaints against the station involved, or did you figure it out.
