My parking pedal doesn't stay down when you push on it but you can hear the mechanism engaging and the truck won't move so I know it works. I never had a vehicle that the pedal didn't stay down when parking brake is engage. So does anyone else has this happen on their truck or am I the only one ?

 

A lot of chevy's did the same thing. I think its just a ratchet mechanism, and so long as it holds the truck in place, all is good.


Rear wheel ABS sensor is on the center of the differential, and reads a tone ring on the carrier. There is only one rear sensor. (all of these trucks had at least RWAL.)

if the lite in the dash is still on.... unplug the wire going to the combination valve. (the lines from the master cylinder go right to it.) If the light goes off, then you probably have a leak in the system somewhere.

I started truck and the light was on as usual so I popped the hood and unhooked that plug with two wires going to it from the combination valve and the light stayed on so I hooked it back up and wiggled the plug and it still stayed on so I know it isn't a loose connection. I haven't crawled under the truck yet to check on the rear ABS sensor but since the ABS light don't come on in the dash I figure the ABS sensor is working fine. So the only thing I can even think of is that parking brake switch that is on the parking brake mechanism and I have to order that.

 

But disconnecting the park brake switch didn't turn it off either, did it? (that's a normally open switch, just like the pressure switch on the comby valve.)

 

So today I made a run to a couple of places and after the second stop I made when I started it back up to leave the "brake" light went off in the dash so I push the parking brake and the light came on as it should and I pulled the release handle and the light went back off. When I got home I shut the truck off and waited a couple minutes and started the truck and the light was back on again. So I am at a point where I am not sure what I can do to fix this light in the dash problem

 

Has the brake system been opened recently? Wonder if bleeding it good would take care of it.

 

Well the light was on before I changed the back brake shoes yesterday and the brake pedal felt fine no spongy pedal associated with air in the line. The front brakes were done back in January '14 according to a receipt I found in the glove box that the previous owner had done at Midas. I guess I forgot to mention that I bought the truck with the light on in the dash and the guy told me there was something wrong with the parking brake so I thought how often do I ever use a parking brake in Arizona where it is mainly flat desert land

 

Hhhmmm..... think I would still be tempted to try bleeding them a bit.

I just ordered a brand new ABS sensor from a guy in California for $15 bucks off of ebay (auto parts stores here said it would take a week or so to get it in) so I should have it by Wednesday at the latest.

**Now a question is there anything special I must do when changing this sensor on the rear end ? I never messed with ABS brakes before but it looks fairly simple

 

Nope, just swap it out. Real simple.
