Default Rear end leak

I know the pinion seal on my 99 ram 3500 is leaking. I have been adding fluid until I can get it fixed. It looked like it might be leaking where the axle comes out of the rear end. Can it leak there also?In other words looking at it from the rear there was fluid on the axle near the differential. I didn't see any leaking around the cover. I've had the truck about a month and want to fix it soon and I thought it was just the pinion seal but now I'm not sure if it's a bigger job. Thanks

Hello again. Once again, please do not post in the wrong section. Nothing goes in the general Ram section except notifications/threads from the forum staff, but instead in the appropriate subsection. I will move you to the 2nd gen section again.

Fix the pinion seal first. Then see what happens. Likely it's just running down to the back, making it look like there is a leak there.

Ok, that's what I'm thinking because I have been adding fluid every time I drive it to make sure it's full. I should get it done within 2 weeks and will post how it went.

If you are going to do it yourself get a new pinion nut too. You should have a dana 80 in that 3500 and the pinion nut needs torqued around 500 ft-lbs. Grab a cheater pipe..
