Default 5.9 NV4500 Swap

Hello, I have a 2000 Ram 5.9L 1500 4x4 extended cab with the 46RE automatic transmission thats about to crap out on me after 80k miles! The NV4500 seems to be the most viable and practical long term solution, but I am just unsure of the parts I would need in order to successfully complete the conversion. So I am hoping someone can shed some light on this before my tranny craps out on me and I am really screwed!

I did find this post on the cummings site, and I was wondering if anyone could confirm if the parts list is accurate and be applicable to my year/model truck!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Pretty close. There are probably some incidentals missing, that you will find as you go. Best bet is to find the whole truck, and have it right there handy while you are doing the swap. Remember, you are going to have to cut a hole in the floor for the shifter, and while your current PCM will run the motor, it is going to whine about the auto trans not being there. Solution there is to either grab the harness/pcm as well, or, just slap a manual trans tune on your PCM.

That is good advice. Hope my landlord won't mind an extra vehicle on the property for a couple of weeks! Is there a particular year I should be looking to grab for a donor truck, and would you happen to know if the dealership charges for a tune/flash?

That is a good overall list. One thing I didn't see is a pilot bearing with bushing.

I don't know about the 98+ trucks, but my 97 1500 pedal mount wouldn't work for the swap (I figured that out after swapping pedals... grrr), there was an odd piece in the way of the clutch master. Having a complete parts truck, like hey you said, will make life a lot easier.

You want one 98 or newer.

That's why I wanted to post it on here first! Thank you, and I will keep in mind what you said about the pedals

It may be a 1st Gen Dakota, but this is a good write up and gives you an idea of parts. First link is an auto to manual next is a 3500 to a 4500.
