Default ****help help*****tranny issue****

I was driving down a hill in my 2001 ram 1500. all of a sudden i hear a grinding sound and loose every gear and it grinds like a mother even in park and just keeps rolling. After 5-10 minutes everything was perfect. It is a remanufactured tranny with roughly 60k on it. Any ideas......i hope its blown lol

If I put it in any gear the driveshaft still spins even in neutral

My first thought is your shifter linkage is damaged or loose. That's any easy check too.

2 or 4 wheel drive? If it is a 4x4 it could be a Transfercase issue. Its shift linkage runs right next to the transmissions.

Of course you might have lost some gears inside essentially locking the internals together regardless of shifter indication. Does it do it in park?

No it doesn't do it in park. It was clinking then grinding when it happened and well you can guess how that works out

Jack up the rear of the truck, drop the rear driveshaft, pull the tailhousing off the t-case, see if the snap ring is still on the output shaft, right up by the rear bearing. My guess is, it ain't there. (which implies that you t-case has munched itself up.)

My rear end was blown out completely.....all the spider gears were bent and missing teeth. The gear that held the right axle was completely freed up. Just sold the truck yesterday for $1,100 as is. Thanks for the help guys!
