All I was checking was to see if the 5 volts are being supplied to the sensor, is it better to just reconnect the wiring harness and back probe the sensor on ground and signal??? Also is the violet/white wire the 5v reference wire?

Thanks for the help.

The ASD relay will only stay engaged for about three seconds after the key is turned on. So, that sounds reasonable normal.

On the connector, (while plugged in.....) should get 5 volts on the Violet with white trace, Orange with dark blue trace is signal wire. That's the one ya wanna test. You should see voltage there with ignition on. (5 volt sensors are always powered with key on) Set your meter on like the 10 volt scale, too high, and it may not register.

If you aren't getting anything there, unplug it, and verify 5 volts on feed wire.

You are testing the right way.

Unhappy

Alright! So I tested the sensor and it seems ok, double checked the fuel pump to make sure I installed it correctly and check filter and it all seems fine. TPS was at .641 volts on closed throttle and around 3.75 on WOT. Engine turned over and finally fired up, it's was sitting for 2 days not wanting to start. Today it ran but only for about 6 to 7 minutes and shut off on her own again. What could cause this??? It loaded 4 different DTC's all related to the 02 sensor though, it's unplugged so that's probably why. I am really wondering if I have a bad cat??? I can't think of anything else???

Help////

I have noticed it shuts off when it reaches normal temperature, could it be a bad ECT sensor? It's not overheating though...

What year is your truck? (that info really should be in your sig, and profile)

98 and newer trucks only use one sensor, so, if yours is newer, and the gauge reads right, the sensor is probably ok. 97 and older use two, so, need a scanner to see what the sensor is telling the PCM.

Yeah sensor seems fine. I have been looking around for any major vacuum leaks. Traced down the hose that goes from Purge Solenoid all the way back to the Evap Canister, the line that goes from the Canister to the line for the fuel tank was not connected, so I plugged it in. Kept looking while I was down there I found what seems like a vacuum hose coming from the front axle. I think it is the 4 wheel drive actuator? But the hose is not connected to anything. It's about 3 feet long, can't figure out where this plugs into?

Thanks for replying back Hey you.
Oh by the way it's a 98 Dodge Ram 1500, 5.2, 4 wheel drive.

there is a connector with 2 vac lines that come off of the actuator on the axle and they run into the switch which will be on the driver side of the t-case. the switch should have 4 lines runnin into it. 2 from the axle and 2 come from the tranny I believe. they all meet up to the switch through a boot rubber like connector if I remember right. its kinda a pain to reach but it can be done. the shift linkage is kinda in the way.

but either way, those lines shouldn't have anything to do with your truck dying. have you checked your MAP sensor on the throttle body?

The farthest I got was just unplugging the MAP sensor and tried starting the truck but no luck. I am gonna test it next, but I wanna rule out the catalytic converter so in order to do that I am gonna do a back pressure test. When truck does fire up and runs, it only does for about 10 minutes then slowly RPM's start dropping while idling, truck bogs down and dies. It has a brand new fuel pump, pressure regulator and filter so I don't think it's a fuel problem. Also another thing I forgot to post was that it gives me a P0141, this is the sensor behind the catalytic converter. Would you guys agree with that?
