Default Hard to shift gears [Automatic]

So I'm going to be purchasing a 1999 2500 Cummins Turbo Diesel. Quad Cab short bed. It's under coated and all. Just on the frame and the axles and leaft springs. Not engine and body.

When I hold on the brake, to go from [P] R N D 2 1

It's not really hard, but not as easy as much vehicles.
Also, when I go to a gear [R], it doesn't really click, I have to just place it there. There's a light click, but can't hear it.

What would be the cause of this? It does have rear blocks, would the cable be getting stretched out or something like that? Too much tension? I'm just afraid I'll on the freeway in Cruise Control, I hit a bump and it moves to [N] and then things get real messy.
