Default Wheel feels loose, please help.

So today I installed new brakes on my truck, had it less than 2 weeks. It's a 1997 with 4x4, so the front axle is a Dana 44. When I jacked it up, the passenger side front wheel had a nice amount of play and movement in it, kind of scary! The driver side felt tight though. Truck is high miles, 190,000. Any idea what's wrong on the passenger side? I'd appreciate any help.

Likely the hub bearing assembly. Also, check the U-joint behind the wheel, too, while you are in there..

Ok, I'll be sure to change the hub assembly. What should I look for on the U-joint?

U-joint should be tight with no looseness at each of the 4 bearing caps. Also, check to be sure the movement isn't in the upper and lower ball joints, too. The wheel hub is the most likely cause, but check those ball joints, too.

It depends on what kind of movement. Don't just throw parts at it without checking it first.

Does it move side to side (3 and 9)? If so, likely tie rod(s).

Does it move up and down (12 and 6)? If so, likely ball joint(s).

Does it move BOTH up, down, side to side? If so, likely hub bearing. Or possibly tie rod(s) AND ball joint(s).

Need to check it and go from there.
