Could old gear oil cause this?

I drove my 2wd open diff Ram across water that was deep enough to completely submerge the undercarriage and exhaust pipe, and didn't have 1 problem. (besides some serious butt pucker)

What kind of tires are you running?

They're a fairly new set of cooper discoveries. Bought them on the recommendation of the tire guys at the only tire shop I trust in town, but I have worse traction in "adverse conditions" (rain, snow, etc) than I had two years ago before I took off the bald set. The old tires were so bald I had bands showing through. Told the guys "it's 2WD and my DD, so I need it to handle in the snow."

So I figure either I can't trust them after all and I have to drop another 800 on a different set of tires or I have problems in my diff. Since it seems to be getting progressively worse, I'm not prone to blame the tires at this point.

I had a 2wd open diff that went through the snow just as well as my two other 2wd rams with lsd. Maybe it was desperation to find some whiskey during a blizzard when most stores had closed.

I had pretty good luck with the discoverers on my truck, they got me out of some sticky situations with barely any tread, so I doubt that was the problem. Just throwing my input in.
