Aofarrel2, it's not the CAD. I've replaced my original CAD since the noise started. I've fairly certain my double cardin joint is good. There is absolutely no play in it but just to be sure, I swapped it out with a spare driveshaft I have with a joint on it and it produced the exact same noise.

Dvaughan, tell me about it. This problem has been haunting me for the past 6 months lol. I haven't put it on jack stands yet but that's my next test. Will post results. The chain sprockets "appeared" to be good. I inspected them the best I could. No play in the sprocket and no wear or damage on the teeth.

Will get some pics and another video from the driveshaft angle tomorrow.

I doubt it will make the noise on jackstands. No load on the driveline. I think what is happening is, when turning in 4x4, you are putting a bind on the driveline, THAT is what causes it to make the noise. Now, just need to find out WHERE it is coming from.

Since you have been thru the t-case, and swapped driveshafts, and the cad is new.... that doesn't leave much left, aside from the front diff itself.

Talked with a friend of mine who rebuilds these tcases on a daily basis, he thinks the sprockets are to blame in the tcase. I'm gonna send him a link to your video so he can listen to it. Then I'll post back in a couple of days what he says. He's a really busy guy - so it could take a couple of days.

Sorry guys I've been away on a camping trip. Still havent taken a video of the front shaft. I noticed last night when I got back that I can move the tcase up and down about an inch or so. I could feel it at my feet. Appears to be loose where it bolts to transmission. I don't know if this will make that sound but I know it definitely shouldn't do that.

I think I asked this in another thread once but can I use a tcase 231 out of a 96 ram with the old shift pattern in a 98 ram with the newer shift pattern?

Only difference between the tcases is the shifter itself IIRC. The transfercase itself is not different. So yes you could use it. Make sure you save the bracket from the side of the tcase - they might be different. You know, the one that bolts onto the stub coming out.

Okay. I have the option of taking one tonight but the truck is going to scrap tomorrow. No idea if it works or not. Should I take the risk?

If it's free, yeah, can't hurt anything. Otherwise, how much is he asking? Cuz you can get one in a junkyard for about $350CAN-$500CAN with a 90 day warranty. I see about 16 up there in Ontario.

Yeah it's free. My old mans. He's used it as a parts truck for 5 years. Blown transmission. Never started it.

well grab it then. It's not that hard to put it in and take it out. If it works, great. If not, scrap it. They'll give you a few bucks for it.

If it doesn't work PM me and I can help you find one.
