Question Replacing rear end

If I go to the junkyard to get a new (to me) rear end for my 95 Ram 1500 4x4, does the rear end have to come from an exact model match, or are there others that would work?

I think it needs to be the same gear ratio as the front. I have 2500 axles on my1500

It HAS to be the same gear ratio as the front unless you plan on doing a full swap front and rear. And if you do, you likely will have to replace drivelines to match up with the different gearing and have your PCM flashed.

The only thing it HAS to be is the same ratio as the front axle.

Any 1500 rear axle will bolt right in with no problems

Any 2500 will bolt right in too. With some minor modifications, spring perches and drive shafts.

Theres no need to have anything flashed

No PCM Reflash is necessary. Just make sure the ratio is correct. there is a stamped piece of aluminum on them indicating ratio.

my rear end is different from my front.. never had time to do the gear swap.. (along with a plenum fix, Cold air Mod, and rust repair.) using a different ratio doesnt affect anything other than if you use 4 wheel drive and go over ten miles an hour on anything dry or flat you will ruin your whole drive train.. Been there done that.

Yep, yep, and yep, can't reflash a '95 PCM anyway.
