Default 2001 ram 1500 electrical issues

Hey all,

I have a 2001 Ram 1500 5.2 litre V8. Recently my truck would not start. No cranking, no radio no lights etc. I tried to jump it and after jumping it for awhile I tried to start it and it would turn over but wouldn't stay running. I had to rev the engine just to keep it on and it would not stay one when I would let off the gas. I bought a new battery on Friday and installed it and the truck started and it ran just fine Friday and Saturday. Sunday morning I tried to start the truck and nothing. Again, no lights no radio and obviously no crank. Today, I was hoping I left a light on or something stupid the night before and that's why it wouldn't start. So I tried jumping it again, and the same thing as last time it would turn over but would not continue running without revving the gas and would die once I let off the gas. I am thinking it may be the starter but could a bad starter cause the battery to drain to the point where no electronic components work? I have searched the web and can't find a situation similar to this. I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction where to start.
Thanks

Also, when the truck was running my electrical gauge was reading normally which leads me to believe it wasn't the alternator

have you checked your battery connections? you may have a drain on the battery, or alternator is acting up, the reving it up to keep running is the result of a dead battery

Connections look good. I haven't followed each individual wire yet but the terminal connections seem fine. If it was the alternator though wouldn't I notice more of a slow drain instead of runs fine to completely dead?

Starters can go bad and have a constant drain on the battery. Get a multimeter out and check the top post on the starter. It should have 14ish volts all the time. It should always be hot.

Check your battery connections under the fuse box. Especially if you have been mudding

check conections, and started with the multimeter, but to me it sounds like your new battery didn't get re-charged by the alternator.
