Default 9.25 Rear Open Carrier vs. LSD Carrier

anyone know if the carriers are the same no matter what? can I take a lsd carrier from a 2001 9.25 and put it into a 1993 9.25? my 9.25 is open diff right now and I wanna do away with it. so can I just swap my ring gear onto the lsd carrier and toss it in? anything to keep me from it?

I don't think anything changed over the years. If your 93 has the tone ring on it, I don't see any reason why the posi carrier wouldn't drop right in. Only caveat there would be gear ratio. If the posi is 4.10 or higher (numerically) the 3.55 gears won't go on there, and allow proper set up.

the posi carrier had 3.92s so I didn't figure it would be any problem either. thanks for info man, ill just have to compare them both now, didn't wanna take the cover off and waste the fluid if it wasn't possible.

well just an update so everyone knows, yes it works and was a simple as just swappin over the ring gear onto the new carrier. put the shims and everything back and get it adjusted right and its as smooth as butter. no weird noises, no rumbles, no clunk when put into gear nothing. and now she is even more ready for the trails. later.
