Default 96 ram 2500

Okay so I just bought a 96 dodge ram 2500 4x4 and the speedo dosnt work along with it revs out to shift into 3rd gear. From my knowledge it has a 98 transfer case witch has a different speed sensor that's not in the tcase
Anyone have any ideas

On the 96, the vehicle speed sensor is driven by a gear system in the tail of the t-case. Having the 98 t-case in there isn't going to work for you. No provision for the older style VSS. Need to swap the t-case.

For the shifting problem, and since you just got the truck.... probably wouldn't hurt to drop the pan, change fluid/filter, adjust bands, and inspect the servo springs. (it's all right there when you drop the pan.) Should take care of things for ya.

Welcome to DF!

Real possibility. But, I would do the trans work in any event, *just because*.
