A/C compressor shutting off while driving

Default A/C compressor shutting off while driving

i have a 2001 dodge pk and lately while driving the a/c compressor turns off and when i turn off the a/c completley or switch it to vent for a few minutes and then re engage the a/c it starts to work again and then it starts all over again. any suggestions

Weak relay, low on refrigerant, failing switch.. Given your symptoms, I would suggest relay first, and if that doesn't help, check the charge.

Thanks, i had just recharged it a few days ago, so i'll go with the relay or s/w thanks for your quick response.

If you do have a leak somewhere, it would probably only take a few days to drain out.. When you turn the A/C on full blast, pop the hood and listen. Can you hear the clutch turn on and off?

yes the clucth engages after i turn it off for a while then it turns on with no problem after a few minutes the clutch stops.

Might want to get a gauge and check that the pressure on the freon is high enough. There is a low pressure switch which will turn the clutch off if the pressure isnt high enough, so you will get an on and off again syndrome.
